Gypsy Horses

One of the interesting bits of history about Millhams Mead LNR [link] is that one of the reasons it was never built on is that parts of it are common land and has to remain open to public use so long as the local Gypsys graze their horses on the land. They make sure that they always have horses grazing there, (And on a couple of other sites locally) and thereby keeping the land open for all the public. Several of these spots locally are now protected as Local nature Reserves due to the large quantity of flora and fauna that this encourages.
